The Great DotA Video Review 2010


Nearing the end of the year 2010, the moment finally came to review all movies from this year 2010 to highlight the one and only which deserves to be the best! Many people mastered Sony Vegas, Adobe After Effects and the Replay Seeker to make something unique and special for their viewers and now comes the time to see who actually did the best one!

Just in case, there was made a review by me as well for the year 2009. I hosted the previous selection at the German e-Sports site Fragster.de. Unfortunately the DotA section closed there, but the review is still available:

For this year I moved to this German forum which provides me a lot of graphical tools, as you will see later. I have the permission to write this in English here :) Adding to that I beg you to post any question related to this in the forum where I promoted this article.

But before we actually move on to the Top 25, I would like to point out some special projects which started this year, but unfortunately I couldn't use them in my review. You will see soon why.


DotA Projects 2010


First of all we start with the series "WoDotA Weekly Volume" hosted by WoDotA and made by SK.Exia_CN. This Chinese movie maker collects scenes out of various DotA Replays, takes each week the 10 best scenes and puts them into a video.
The scenes are sorted from 10 to 1 and 1 is considered to be the best out of this week. Despite that he made also some Weekly Specials, namely the Apparation special Vol. 4 as this new hero came out, next the SF special in Vol. 5, followed by the 6.68 special in Vol 11 where 4 new heroes were introduced in this version and last but not least the Pudge Special in Vol. 24. Up to date we have 30 Volumes and many more will hopefully follow.

Legends of HeroesThe next project I would like to mention is the "Legends of Heroes", also hosted by WoDotA and made by many different talented Chinese movie makers who work for WoDotA.
This series spotlights one specific hero divided in 3 parts:
- Story
The Story part is a small cinematic story with the hero explaining what this hero did before joining the DotA Battlegrounds.
- Explanation
Next the Explanation part basically explains the hero. All 4 Spells are introduced and what items are considered as good on this hero, but everything in chinese.
- Highlights
The last highlight part shows real in game scenes with this hero.

So far there was a Trailer and 4 heroes were highlighted:


An amazing series, partially translated by WoDotA for non Asian Viewers.


The 3rd project I wanted to talk about was made by Kuarinofu, who lately did delete all his stuff from YouTube, so I will skip it :) But there is made something similar by a Chinese movie maker, if you missed Kuarinofus series.

The probably most awesome and crazy project for this year is the WDC Video coverage by WoDotA. The WDC is the World DotA Championship hosted by Loveen where some world famous DotA teams faced each other to determinate the World DotA Champion.
The most amazing there here is, that WoDotA made highlights from each game from the playoffs some hours after the actual matches did end. I did upload all those movies at YouTube and I hope WoDotA will upload them as well in HD there. So far you can enjoy most only in LQ:

nice one, muss aber ehrlich gestehen das mich kein dota video dieses jahr wirklich beeindruckt hat, liegt aber wahrscheinlich daran das die erwartung einfach zu hoch ist

und blöd is leider, wenn links nicht funktionieren weil youtube wieder mal das video gesperrt hat.

warum gibts überhaupt noch leute, die bei youtube videos hochladen, wos doch so viele alternativen gibt, die nicht gleich jedes video sperren?

afaik ist das nur ein problem für deutsche. denke mal die meisten ausländischen videoersteller sind sich dessen (noch) nicht bewusst.
zudem hat matthe direkt ne lösung mit dazu gepackt.

ich weiß, aber jetzt auf der Arbeit extra proxy einstellen. und auch so nervts mich einfach nur und ich wollt das mal loswerden.

betrifft ja echt die allermeisten videos!

edit nochmal für shilla: ich hab das schon kapiert und mir ist das auch schon lange KLAR! Trotzdem darf ich mich whol noch drüber beklagen :(

Deutschland hat halt die GEMA, die iwie 10 Cent pro Musik-Video-View gefordert hat. laut Youtube. Was bei gut 2++ Mrd. Views 200++ Mio Euro machen würde. Die GEMA sagte, nur 1 Cent, was noch immer 20++ Millionen Euro wären, pro Jahr und alleine NUR für Deutschland.
Ich habe auch Videos auf Youtube drauf und dann stehen da Sachen wie "Dieses Lied ist in folgendne Ländern gesperrt:
Germany" :D :D :D :D Ales einziges Land wohlgemerkt. In allen anderen Ländern kann sich Youtube mit den Musikbehörden gut verständigen.

Ausserdem bietet Youtube schnellere Ladezeiten, weniger Werbung als Own3d und viel mehr Leute benutzen Youtube... 500k Views sind auf Own3d halt unmöglich. Es gibt einefach keine ähnlich gute Alternative.
