Why patch 2.0 didn’t kill the game.
With the large amount of threads saying traits and medallions ruined balance or skill, I think we should evaluate this from a reasoned perspective and not in the hysterical, knee jerk way. And lets be serious, the patch has not nearly been out long enough to warrant such hysteria.
“Traits and medallions ruined game balance and the ethos of the game.”
This is patently false in regards to balance between equal level players because equal level players have exactly the same access to traits. Traits allow for you to build your bloodline around your play style, allow for traiting for specific matchups and brackets and overall increase the dynamics of the meta-game.
Being able to trait for specific brackets and matchups means the dynamic of the game becomes so much more interesting. You can trait for strategies you may wish to employ and you can trait based on strategies are employed against you. The same is true for works for bracket and game type and for the composition you run. Just think of the possibilities this brings to the game, how could wish that undone?
Imbalance, as if it could be called that, only comes when talking about players of different levels. This is really a nonissue however because the changes are so minute (0.05%) that 1, 2 or even 5 levels is not a big deal. Imbalance only comes when there is a big difference in level difference but matchmaking solves this. And really, why shouldn’t a level 25 player beat a level 5 player? They probably have more game experience anyway.
The ethos of the game has changed minutely; you are no longer exactly the same as everyone else. But as I said before matchmaking solves this. And also as I said before, competition has increased because of this.
I won’t spend too much time talking about medallions because they bring what traits bring and because they are available to everyone, everyone benefits.
The only gripe with traits and medallions are these: I cant see what the opposition is using which hinders decision making. I cant easily track energy.
Both of these can be solved by being able to inspect the players after they have chosen their Bloodlines and by having an energy bar under their HP bar.
PS: smurfing becomes obsolete with this customization.
